Montreal, September 9, 2019 – Termont Montreal made the decision on Friday, September 6, to transform its entire fleet into hybrid vehicles with Effenco’s revolutionary heavy-duty vocational vehicle technology for the transportation sector. The Minister of Transport, François Bonnardel, made the announcement last Friday, accompanied by representatives of Effenco, Termont Montreal, LOGISTEC Corporation and the Port of Montreal. The Government of Quebec has granted $1.4 million to support Termont Montreal in the adoption of Effenco’s Active Stop-Start technology.
“The Government of Quebec is proud to support this innovative project that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the Port of Montreal during container handling. This important initiative continues to demonstrate the leadership of Quebec companies, and is a concrete step towards ensuring better energy efficiency in the freight transportation industry,” said François Bonnardel, Minister of Transport.
“We are pleased to contribute to improving the Port of Montreal’s ecological footprint. This announcement strengthens Quebec’s position in the electrification of transportation and intelligent vehicles, and is crucial in the global deployment of our heavy vehicle electrification technology,” added David Arsenault, President of Effenco.
Reduced ecological footprint: a global first
Following a pilot project that took place between April 1 and October 19, 2018, Termont Montreal is now transforming 57 additional terminal tractors to reduce the port’s ecological impact and improve air quality. In doing so, the port reduces nearly half of fine particulate matter produced by vocational vehicles and 39% of nitrogen oxide, two contaminants that are extremely harmful to the health of employees, who are exposed to these on daily.

Data collected for the period from April 1 to October 19, 2018. Data was successfully recorded and compiled for a total of 174 days of operations for the pilot testing project.
Over the course of one year, Effenco’s technology allows savings of 1,404 hours of engine time, 3,978 litres of fuel, 12 tons of greenhouse gases, 0.209 tons of carbon dioxide and 0.012 tons of fine particulate matter.
